Way of the Cross Ministries
I just felt this was an e-mail I would like to share with you all. I was just amazed by how GOD is working in this world. I love to see testimonies like this from the missionaries I know. This is a couple that I knew from my old church. I have always wanted to be a part of the big feed in December each year but have never been able to make the trip. If you want to you can check out their webpage at www.wotc.org.
Thanks so much for your prayers and support for our upcoming Nicaragua trip. You are a great encouragement to us! Hope you are doing well. Let us know how we can pray for you and your family.
We are very busy these days working with short term missionary groups in Mexico. We led a small group from South Dakota this week. Monday we went to an elementary school where our two 10 year old nephews shared their testimonies and a 4th grade teacher brought the message. Before we left we played soccer with the students and gave them 2 balls and some cold drinks, candy and small toys.
Next we went to a park where the local high school bussed in their students to listen to us. The youth group from SD did the service. The students were a little unruly…typical teenagers, I guess. The girl who gave the message wasn’t discouraged though. After they left she witnessed to a young woman who responded to the gospel.
Our third outreach was a soccer field in a small village. The group went door to door inviting and had a great response. There were many adults who asked for prayer for healing after the service.
Tuesday was a very special day. Phil gave the message to the group in morning chapel in the form of a drama. The text was from John chapter 9. We left to travel 2.5 hours to an island where fishing is the only source of support Before we got on the boat, Pastor Abraham’s wife served us a wonderful fish and shrimp dinner. We loaded the boat with soup, boxed milk, beans, vitamins and candy. The islanders were very thankful, as their fishing has been in a slump making survival quite difficult.
We canvassed the island inviting them to a church service where we would pass out the food. It seemed as if nearly everyone on the island came! There were men who had never been in an evangelical church before. You could tell that they were uncomfortable. The group painted the children’s faces and did a puppet show before the gospel was shared. We passed out the things we brought and got back on the boat to head home.
Driving back we saw some men flagging us down to ask if we had any cokes. It was very hot and they were digging a grave for a friend who had died the day before. We had no cokes, but we got out our water jug and took the 9 men ice cold water. Phil recognized the opportunity and gently asked them if he could talk with them about eternity. They said yes, so he went on to share with them. We left the cemetery having met their physical need with ice cold well water and seeing the Lord meet their Spiritual need with the only thing that can satisfy a thirsty soul…Living Water! We pray and we plan and we bring gifts all for the opportunity to share the gospel. After we have done all we know to do, the Lord shows us ministry along the side of the road.
Our final day of outreach with the SD group began with a trip to the garbage dump where we ministered to the people working there to find recyclables and other items of value. The smoke was thick, as were the flies. The smell is beyond description. We gave the people ice cold drinks and food and gave an invitation to receive Christ as Savior. We continued on to a poor neighborhood in Matamoros where another Way of the Cross group was putting on a block party with cold drinks, carnival games, music, preaching, and bicycle giveaways. A few hundred people attended and many gave their hearts to Jesus.
Thursday the group went shopping in a Mexican market then out to South Padre Island. This morning they worked in our warehouse and after lunch they headed home.
Tomorrow we get to go to McAllen Airport to pick up a new group. We will be working with Solomon and Annette Trejo who are leading this group, so the new adventure begins!
Keep in Touch!
God Bless You,
Phil & Pat
